In April, my mother brought me some of the potatoes from the vine that we have always called air potatoes. That's the leaf you see in the background. My sister and mom tossed them around the yard and beneath the iron staircase in the rear of our house. The vines twined around the bannister, reaching the top, to produce a railing of green. This grasshopper made it home.
A few days after I took the photo, I noticed that the 'hopper had lost a rear leg. Lately, we haven't see it at all. I wonder if the bird that separated his leg from his body finally got a full meal.
