Molly the Super Old Golden Retriver of Indeterminate Age

Today is Molly's last day of life. We've had her six years when we thought we would have her for just one. Somehow this dog that we found hairless and covered with hundreds, if not thousands, of fleas on the side of the road was a wonderful addition to our family. She's always been a gentle, loving dog with little quirks to make her one of a kind. She endured the abuse of The Brute, Inwe, Larien, and Finwe. She also endured the close attentions of a puppy--the White Dragon. She began by hiking five to ten miles with us in Shenandoah National Park. Now, the longest hike she makes is outside to relieve herself. She has been in constant pain lately. She moans for us to lift her off the ground to go outside. She moans for us to lift her off her bed to change positions in the middle of the night. The pain medication no longer works. We'll miss her.

Molly, Mama Dog loves you. She knows that you will be waiting for her in that big field in the sky. Thank you for being so sweet when she visited and for welcoming her to your home. You are a blessing. Rest easy now, little one. Rest easy.

I'm sorry to hear it, Sarabeth. We had to make that decision a few years ago about my dear old Kitty. It's painful.

I can't help but sob uncontrollably when someone has to make this choice for a beloved pet. It was one of the most painful experiences I've ever been through when I had to say goodbye to my Fefe after spending 15 years with her. My heart is with you and your family tonight.

I know she will be missed, what a GREAT "save" to have her in your home, you gave her 6 yrs, she never would have had and she gave you so much in return....off to where Sunny, the Brute, Sush and Harold are off playing in open fields. Hugs and love to you, and the rest of the family!
